Affiliate Marketing Business Model & Creating Your Affiliate Marketing Business Plan
When you are starting affiliate marketing, I want you to look at it as a business model. The problem that most people have when it comes to making money online is that they look at it a way of making a quick buck and not as a proper business. This is probably why a lot of people don’t make it in this industry.
When you treat it like a business, there are higher chances of you making money for a sustained period. “But I’m not a business person” you might be saying. Look at it this way. Every one of us is a business person. Our life is a business that we are running.
We make choices each day that lead us towards a certain outcome that we desire. Unfortunately for most of us, we let other people run this business for us instead of running it by ourselves. An affiliate business needs you to approach it in the right way and that starts with our mindset.
Addressing Your Mindset
The first thing that you need to get right when it comes to this belief is the mindset. The thing is, even with all the tools at your disposal, the wrong mindset will surely derail your efforts. This is true for affiliate marketing as well as any other business out there.
The proverb that says a bad carpenter always blames his tools is a true proverb. You need to be a good business person and that all comes down to your mind. The law of the mind is belief. We are where we are right now because of the beliefs that we harbour. Deal with the beliefs and 80% of the battle is won.
It took me a long time to arrive at an actual appreciation of this valuable truth. I knew it in my head but it took some time before it was engraved on my heart. This is the number one lesson you need to learn otherwise the rest of this article really won’t help you.
What is the right mindset then? You need to approach this as something that you believe is already a done deal. Imagine a trustworthy friend or relative promised to give you $5000. Even if you don’t have it in your hands, you already have the excitement and assurance that it is yours based on how trustworthy your friend or relative is.
You need to approach this in the same way. Do it like you know that it’s already a done deal and once you are finished with the process the money will come in. This is a trustworthy process and it works. You need to do your part by following it.
State Your Income Goal
Once you have dealt with your mindset, the next step is to set your income goal. How much exactly, do you want to earn through affiliate marketing. Set a monthly goal then break this down to a daily income goal.
There are 2 reasons for doing this. The first reason is this; if you break down a seemingly big goal into smaller daily targets, it makes the overall objective look more attainable. The fact that the elephant has been broken down into small edible chunks helps you tackle it a lot easier.
The second reason is that it reinforced your all-important belief meaning that you are more likely to achieve it.
For example, let’s say you want to start off with a simple goal of hitting $1000 per month with affiliate marketing. Break this down into daily income goals or, as some would call them “DIGs”.
1000/30 = $33.33 break this down further into productive hours per day. Even if you work 8 hours a day, the reality is that maybe 3 to 5 of those hours are really productive. Let’s use a conservative 4 productive hours per day.
This means that you need to make at least $8.40 during 4 hours in a day. Do you see how that process makes things look really attainable? When you do this with big goals, you will discover that they will look more attainable.
The next thing you need to do is set micro-goals during the course of the day. For example, when I write a blog post that I estimate will have around 1500 to 2000 words, I either set myself a target of 500 words then reward myself with a short break before hitting my next 500 words.
I have discovered that when I break my goals down into micro-goals, it makes life really easy and I tend to get my work done really quickly. The other method I use is set time limits where I work in 40-minute chunks then take a 10 to 15-minute break.
This keeps my mind fresh and attentive meaning that I am a lot more productive. Pick a method that works best for you.
Now that you have your income goal in place, the next thing you need to do is to choose which path you will follow. There are numerous ways that you can earn money as an affiliate but in this post, I will share with you 4 different methods that you can implement to start making money as an affiliate. Pick the one that resonates best with you.
Choose a Path
I am going to share 4 different models. 3 of these require some time and effort before you start seeing results. The 4th one takes a shorter time (you could start seeing earnings within hours or a day or 2) than the other 3 methods but it does need money for you to implement.
Option 1 – Website/ Blog Approach
This is the path that I have chosen because, though it takes time to build up, it does pay you for a longer period of time once it starts earning you money. I have been around the internet marketing streets for quite some time now and have been a victim of shiny object syndrome more than I want to admit.
What I have also seen in this period where “systems” have come and gone is that blogging has remained a constant performer and has stood the test of time. It took some doing but I finally settled on a more long-term approach rather than a short term one and I’m beginning to reap the fruit.
In this method, you can build an authority blog which has hundreds or even thousands of posts on it or you could do a small niche site which usually has 10 to 50 posts on it targeting a specific niche. You can then let it sit and let Google do its magic and rank it or you could take a more pro-active approach and promote the content.
To promote the content, you can use Tailwind Tribes and Pinterest. This method can get you traffic fairly quickly if you are consistent enough. I have come across bloggers who have grown their income to $10 000 per month within as little as 6 months using this approach.
If you want to get traffic passively through search engines, you will need to do extensive keyword research targeting what are known as long-tail keywords. For me, anything from 4 words up is a good length.
I also look for very low competition and a search volume of anywhere from 100 visitors and more. If you do this right and target long-tail keywords with little competition, you can easily begin to rank and start seeing traffic within a few months.
Option 2 – ClickBank Pinterest Method
This method does not necessarily need a website. All you need is a Pinterest business account and be a member of ClickBank or another good affiliate network and you are good to go. To turbocharge the method, you can use Tailwind Tribes so that you begin to drive floods of traffic to your offer.
This method works really well if you don’t have a website and want fast results. The downside is that this is active income and you need to work it for it to keep working unlike with a blog or niche site where you can stop creating content but can still be earning.
How it Works
First of all, get a product with a high gravity on ClickBank. Retrieve the hoplink which is your personalised link that you can share and earn from when someone clicks on your link and buys.
Next up you need to join Pinterest then convert your account into a business account. This step will allow you to share links on Pinterest which then lead to the product you are promoting. You may also want to use a link shortener like Bitly or Adf.ly which actually pays you for using their service.
Use www.canva.com to create attractive pins to share to Pinterest. On Pinterest create some public boards related to the product(s) you are promoting. Create identical boards but make them secret boards then upload all the pins you made to them.
In Tailwind Tribes, you can then schedule these pins to post onto the public boards at set intervals. The power of tribes though is that you can join communities (tribes) of people in the same niches as you and you then share each other’s posts.
This is where the power really lies and from virtually nothing, you can grow a following quickly while driving traffic to your affiliate offer.
Option 3 – ClickBank YouTube Method
YouTube is another great way to make money with affiliate marketing. With this method, you publish videos in the niche you are promoting then place a link to your product in the video description.
The concept is pretty basic but it needs consistency. YouTube will not reward you right away if you are still a new channel. What they do reward is consistency. You need to post regularly. This could mean once per day r once per week. What YouTube looks for is consistency.
If you don’t like standing in from of the camera then that’s quite alright. You could do screen capture videos where you record your voice overs. If that doesn’t appeal to you as well, you can create videos using Google’s own resource called creative commons which is video footage you are allowed to re-purpose. There really isn’t any excuse.
Option 4 – ClickBank CPC Method
Cost per click (CPC) advertising is how websites like Google and Bing make their money. This method works on Bing but not so well on Google because you can’t promote certain content there and they are also quite expensive.
The basic idea is to promote affiliate links through paid ads. The concept is basic enough but it’s never a good idea to point your ad straight to an affiliate offer. You’ll lose a lot of money if you do it this way. I will share a method that you can implement to start getting sales.
Instead of driving traffic straight to the affiliate offer, create a 3-page website with 3 articles and all the links on the site leading to your affiliate offer. A lot of people are making a killing using this method.
